This six-bottle mix case is a unique selection of 2022 and 2023 Decanter World Wine Award medal winners and the perfect introduction to Hungarian fine wine.

It includes two fiery Bull's Blood from Eger, the legendary red wine of the region acting as the winemakers' liquid signature, one refreshing white wine from the shores of Lake Balaton, an elegant sparkling wine from the volcanic Somlo Hill, as well as a 5 and a 6 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú, which are some of the most complex natural sweet wines in the world. Featuring two Platinum Award Winners, you can be sure to taste the best from Hungary, while you can also lay down a couple of bottles for ageing, as they will get even better with time. 

BOLYKI Egri Bikavér 'Bull's Blood' 2021

Attractive, deep ruby colour. The spicy nose shows a core of dark stewed fruit and a hint of chocolate. Rich, chewy palate with intense black pepper spice, followed by dark cherry and blackcurrant notes and a touch of vanilla. Lively acidity, tight tannic structure, and long mineral finish.

Grape varieties: Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Zweigelt, Blauburger, Portugieser

Soil type: Brown forest soil

Fermentation: Spontaneous, in stainless steel tank

GRÓF DEGENFELD Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2017

Luscious fragrance of apricot and ginger jam, peaches and cream, honeysuckle, and orange blossom with a lovely light touch of warming spice. An assertive and imposing texture with a rich palate of candied and tropical citrus fruit, while a layer of new Hungarian oak adds toasted, woody notes. 2017 was an excellent aszú vintage and the result is outstanding balance and poised acidity.

KREINBACHER Prestige Brut

A lovely bouquet of lime, flowers and stone fruits with a tantalising brioche aroma adding extra layers of complexity. Vibrant citrus fruits on the palate with rich notes of ageing on the lees. Subtle bubbles allow the minerality of the furmint grapes to shine, while the gentle mousse provides a long aftertaste of grapefruit and a touch of salinity. ST. ANDREA Egri Bikavér Superior 'Bull' 2021

Deep and complex nose with aromas of red cherry, red berries and a hint of liquorice root. Savoury cool-climate style with notes of ripe bramble and leafy black fruits complimented by oak, chocolate and sweet smoked spice. Soft, ripe tannins and fine acidity set this wine up perfectly for food pairing and ageing if you can wait.

You are drawn in by an opulent and intense aroma of honeyed sweetness, mango, orange peel and fragrant forest mushrooms. The palate is rich in acacia blossoms, marmalade and tropical notes of passion fruit. This concentrated sweet wine is perfectly balanced by its natural acidity, creating a highly-drinkable vintage with a creamy texture and a lingering mineral finish.

It opens with a lovely honeyed citrus character that melts into notes of golden apples.
