Kreinbacher Estate's flagship still wine, this elegant single-vineyard Syrah is an exceptional vintage inspired by the powerful reds of the Rhône Valley. The grapes were hand-harvested from the stony terraces of the southern side of Somló Hill, giving it an intense mineral character.

Deep pomegranate colour. An intense fruity aroma of blackcurrant and black cherries, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. 16-months of oak barrel ageing has tamed Syrah’s fierceness, resulting in an elegant yet dynamic wine. Silky smooth on the palate with well-integrated tannins, the fruit flavours are rounded out by black pepper tones typical to this variety and barrel spices. There is plenty of substance here, culminating in a zesty, long-lived finish.

Food Pairing

Serve with traditional Hungarian favourites like goulash soup or lamb stew, or semi-hard cheese such as Gruyère or a traditional Baracskai. If you are looking for a lighter vegetable meal then try it with a mushroom casserole.

Kreinbacher Estate, Somló

The Kreinbacher Estate was founded on the gentle slopes of the Somló mountain by József Kreinbacher in 2002. A rich alluvial subsoil meets the perfect micro-climate in this volcanic terroir, creating the perfect conditions for cultivating grapes of outstanding minerality. The first sparkling wines were introduced in 2014, opening a new chapter in the region's history that has seen the Kreinbacher Estate become the most decorated Hungarian sparkling winemaker. A team of in-house experts and renowned outside consultants craft each bottle, masterly developing the distinctive aroma of the hand-selected grapes. The results are stunning vintages worthy of the highest international awards and pride of place at any celebration or dinner party.
